About the event

Enslaved Africans began to gather secretly for worship leading historians of the period to refer to what we now call the Black Church as the invisible institution.

This 5-week cohort takes place during Black History Month and explores the nature of those gatherings, the theology that formed in the midst of the meetings and how these hidden assemblies became the impetus for every black freedom movement to follow.

This cohort is open to anyone who wants to celebrate the ways that Invisible Institution came to be, what it accomplished and what the future might hold in light of today's issues and declining religiosity among youth and young adults.
