About the event
Welcome to the six-week virtual cohort exploring the embeddedness and effect of white supremacy in American Christianity. This transformative program aims to delve deep into the complex interplay between white supremacy and the Christian faith in the United States. Through rigorous study, critical analysis, and open dialogue, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the historical, social, and theological dynamics that have shaped this relationship.
During this cohort, we will explore the ways in which white supremacy has been intertwined with American Christianity, examining its historical roots, manifestations, and ongoing influence. We will analyze how white supremacy has shaped Christian institutions, doctrines, worship practices, and social engagement, exploring its impact on issues such as racial segregation, racialized theology, missionary work, social justice activism, and more.
Led by expert facilitators, the cohort will employ an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on theology, history, sociology, and critical race theory. Weekly sessions will consist of interactive lectures, engaging discussions, multimedia presentations, and small-group activities. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, fostering a supportive community that encourages open and respectful dialogue.
By the end of this cohort, participants can expect to have a nuanced understanding of the historical and contemporary dynamics of white supremacy in American Christianity. They will gain tools for critically analyzing and challenging white supremacist structures within their own faith communities, while also exploring ways to actively promote racial justice and inclusivity. This cohort aims to empower participants to become agents of change, fostering a more equitable and anti-racist expression of Christianity.
Join us on this transformative journey as we confront the complex realities of white supremacy within American Christianity, interrogate its influence, and work towards a more inclusive and just future. Together, we can build a community that embodies the values of equality, love, and compassion, free from the shackles of racial oppression
